Why tap tempo

Tap tempo is the fastest way to match a song's tempo before you play along to it — no separate app, no guessing at a number on a slider. Tap along with the beat a few times and read the BPM straight off the taps themselves. It also doubles as a quick warm-up ritual: tapping the pulse of whatever you're about to play gets your sense of time engaged before you ever pick up a stick.

How the reading is computed

The reading is the average interval across your last several taps, not just the gap between your two most recent ones — so one slightly uneven tap doesn't swing the number. That also means it takes at least two taps before any BPM appears at all, and the reading gets steadier as you keep tapping; don't expect a stable number from your first tap or two.
